a quick games a good game?
« on: May 03, 2013, 06:07:08 PM »
Don't know if it aging, or my expectations have changed but ever since including a couple of early 80's games I find I tend to migrate towards them more than say my tz or T2 etc. And I think its because I'm do we with the long drawn out flipper fest of the dmd's. Sure getting the mega scores and wizard modes are the appeal, but more times than not I'm thinking of when will the game end.

Anyone have the same feelings? Is it just me? This really became apparent on the pinball arcade for the ipadmtrying to get up there on the tournament rankings and I scored 400M  and thought I'm bred and yet there's someone with 5B on top

I hope its a passing phase and I'm not locked in the ss zone forever.
Still loving my Metallica Premium

The simplicity of old EMs and SS is timeless. I think if you have a couple of machines from every era, then you are in pinball heaven.
If you don't remember the 70s then you were on drugs.
If you remember playing pinball in the 70s you were having a good time.
If you don't remember anything,  then read about it here,

Had similar "phases" before - loved the modern, deep games, then gravitated for some years to SS, now moving back to DMD. For a long while I was hooked on Firepower and similar games, now the modern ones have got me back in.

I started on the DMD's but now also gravitate to the SS games for the same reasons you mentioned. In particular the Early 80's Bally's and Gottlieb system one games really float my boat at the moment. I currently have two of the Ballys and one system one game coming later in the year but I can only see myself buying more of these sorts of games in the future. I think it's a combination of great art work, easy to understand rules and what can quite often be brutally fast (read short) games.
How many times do you play one of these games and felt like you almost cracked it? If only you could have kept the ball in and dropped that last target! It's what makes me hit that start button again. As exciting as a good game on a dmd can be, many times after I've finished a game I look at the machine and think that's enough for now.
All that said, I think variety is the key and a few games from each era to suit your mood it the way to go.  ^^^

Amen!  ^^^  It's all good
But yes I loooooove a fast, quick game of pinball over a drawn out tedious finger fuxxer  %.%
If it isn't broke, it isn't pinball.
