Sys 80 Question

Hi Guys,

Please excuse my ignorance.  I am starting to look at working on my first sys 80 machine - The Amazing Spiderman.

This is a dumb question but I just want to make sure before I damage anything.  There are two plugs in the backbox, both are labelled '2'.  One harness heads down into the cabinet and the other into the myriad of other wires on the backbox door.  Both sets of wire colours are identical so all appears to suggest that these two plugs should be connected.  Problem is though they both have female pins in them.  So before I change one set of pins over to male pins, can someone just confirm this is correct for me please?

Also, does anyone know what these connectors are actually for?

first do a continuity test.they look factory,so i wouldn't join them.

The only way is either to check the manual (schematics) or power up the game and see what function is missing.

GTB may have wired in the connectors, but not used them. QA was very good (compared to today) in those days, so the game would have left the factory working.

Thanks.  Looking at a Panthera backbox on the IPDB, it looked as though these two connectors were connected.  THis is where I start to get a bit confused and thought it best to ask first.

The only thing that I can tell thus far is the sound isn't working.  I can hear a hum from the speaker but that is it.

Don't think they would be connected to each other. They wouldn't both be female otherwise. Are u sure there is no male connectors in bottom of cabinet?

To be honest I haven't even opened the cabinet up yet.  I need to move the machine to a spot where I can get the glass off and open it up. 

Could someone with a Sys 80 machine take a pic of the backbox showing top left hand corner where the speaker is please.  I can see where there should be a speaker in this machine (it is obviously missing).

Had a look in the cabinet.  There is no sign of any other wires or connectors in there.

I will have a look at my BH on the weekend to see if it has theses connectors. They may be spares, appear visually to be power connectors?? Most connectors on gottliebs from memory are usually maked with a letter and number, relates to the board(letter) and connector(number). A plain number 2?? Not sure. I will see if a can find it.

I had a look at my BH , cant find any connectors make 2 or looking like yours, sorry. I would guess they are un-used spares. Does the machine work otherwise?

Yeah the machine seems to be fully working apart from the sound.  I need to fit a speaker and then change the BRs which I am hoping might help.

I think system 80s had 2 different sound boards, one was a speech and sound with additional power board, the other a standard sound board.(i think) and they are not interchange without modifications.
