Batman Forever - what things to look for when buying?
« on: August 02, 2013, 09:13:15 AM »
Hey guys,

Looking at buying a Sega Batman Forever but thought I'd ask if there was anything in particular to look out for, problems wise  !@#

Got a little stung buying my first pin and didn't want to repeat the mistakes. If anyone out there owns one can you give me some quick tips on what to check. I've done some research and from what I've found out to check is the DMD (an obvious one but considering a replacement costs $400-500 + shipping, an important one), the batwing's movement and firing, the ball launcher handle, have I missed anything?

Also, if all checks out, does $2400 sound like a good deal   *!@

Cheers

Grant

These days, I strongly advise customers to personally view the machine. If you are not sure what you should be looking for, bring someone who does.

For this game, check the DMD and make sure it has no missing lines. If you are familiar with the game, play the game for sale and make sure everything is working. Check the boards - any hacks ?

Look for simple stuff like broken ramps, plastics and wear around the flippers and outholes etc..

Make sure it comes with the correct size and type of legs.

Hi Grant

I have a Baywatch which has the extra large screen, so understand your concerns.

If the guy says that the screen randomly drops out and game resets it is a power supply issue to the dmd as they like a neat 5volt. I just went through this but now mine is working sweet.

I have heard on either the bottom right or bottom left of the dmd is if the screen is lighter in colour that it means it is starting to out gas so avoid. I am not 100% on this just repeating what warnings I have heard about large screens.

The sega's are made well, and play well.

PM pop bumper pete as he has one of this, I think?, but like Nino says definitely try and inspect and play.

Unless it is a real wish list machine and you really want it I would be trying to get the price down a tad.

I agree, but depends if it is immaculate, as opposed to needing damaged plastics replaced, needing ramps replaced, ask when was the last rubber change out, when were the flippers last serviced etc.

Also make sure you are able to get parts for anything damaged.

?? did u end up buying a Batman Forever. ??

I have one, great machine. Bought it from the first owner with no plays on it really. Machine No 2451 of 2500. It was mint n I actually bought it on xmas day apx 4 yrs ago. Never had an issue with anything on this machine.

$2500 is a fair price n the dot matrix annimations are second to none. Cabinet art etc is second to none. Beautiful looking machine. So many modes.
Very reliable machines, anything Sega (soon went to Stern). Also, being a widebody, plenty to do. Audio is also great. Lots of parts avail for these as well.
