Star Trek next generation
« on: September 21, 2013, 03:28:25 PM »
Hi all. I have a Williams Star Trek next generation. The launcher is not launching the ball with enough speed to lock at the back. Should I replace the coil first or do I get a complete assembly
I also have a problem with the flashers not working. Any help will be greatly appreciated as am trying to avoid calling out a tech

Hi. The coil is the last thing I would replace unless there is obvious swelling or burn marks. First I would check if the assembly joints are gummed up and if everything is moving freely. It may just need stripping and cleaning. Don't add lubricant to the joints as that will attract gunk as possibly make the problem worse. I guess the obvious thing to check is the flasher fuse F111 on the power driver board?

A gummed up assembly could cause this. The coil should not be the problem, but replace the coil sleeve anyway.

Check that the metal ramp is aligned with the playfield metal guide. Sometimes the ball loses speed after leaving the ramp and hitting either side of the metal guides. If the ball is not getting that far then the assembly needs to be rebuilt.

Thanks for the help. Did not replace the coil. Replaced the plastic sleeve and adjusted the ramp and launcher is back to awesome

Nice! Much cheaper than a new coil. How is your flasher problem coming along?
