Funhouse Rudy Issues
« on: October 03, 2013, 10:06:56 PM »
Guys,

I am currently Pinsitting a mates FH machine whilst he is overseas.  Over the last few days, Rudy has developed some issues that I am currently stumped with.  In short, his eyelids, eyes and dummy eject coils are not working.  The mouth is working OK.  Since it has been with me, I removed the CPU board to install a remote battery holder as the original wasn't holding settings.  The machine was playing fine after that.

Yesterday I noticed that his eyelids weren't closing.  Today his eyes had stopped moving as well.  I decided to give Rudy a headjob and pulled it apart.  Two coils were heat stressed to the point where the plungers would not move in our out of the coils.  I filed them out a bit so the plungers move freely.  I checked the associated fuse - F3 which is meant to be a 3A fuse - it had an 8A in there but wasn't blown.  I also checked the transistors and all tested fine with the DMM.  Still no go with the eyes, eyelids and now the dummy eject had stopped working as well.  The 3A fuse which I installed isn't blowing either.

Is there an associated chip that would be driving all of these coils?  They are coil No's 16, 25, 26, 27 and 28 from memory.

I was hoping to have the machine running for a bit of a get together this weekend but at this stage it isn't looking good.  Any ideas would be appreciated.  I don't know whether there was issues with the coils first but the fuse didn't blow due to being over fused which in turn has done some damage further up the line??

Cheers,
Me

I'd be checking the connector from the harness to Rudy's assembly. I'd also check that a wire has not come loose from J107 on the power driver board. You are looking at pin 2 J107 (Violet / orange). These provide power to the 25-28 solenoids. The F103 over rated fuse bothers me, as the weak point became those coils.

Dummy eject could be a loose wire off the coil ?

+1 to what Nino suggested.

I've had it where a couple of wires had popped off the coils (as they cop a pounding!)

Wires to coils were ok but I will double check tomorrow.  It seemed odd that the coils basically stopped one after another and not all at the same time.  If I have got time tomorrow I might pull the driver board out and check it over as well.

Something I didn't check was the coils themselves, the windings may have melted instead of the fuse.  I will definitely check the dummy eject coil wires again, I had the head assembly in and out a few times so it wouldn't have been to hard to knock something off.
