home made plastic for Data East TIME MACHINE.
« on: February 27, 2014, 01:34:03 AM »
The ball was threatening the plastic yellow flasher cap and my machine didn't come with the original plastic cover (was originally orange). after the flipper rebuild the ball started getting some serious air coming of the ramp.

It's amazing what u can find around the house when your inspired and in my search I found this old photo frame, right thickness and clear and scratch free.

A Dremel took care of the cutting and left a nice edge with minimal sanding...
anyway have a look.

nicely done..

I have resorted to this for a Judge Dredd plastic I can't find.. Cutting out like you and then using transparent ink jet printable adhesive plastic sheet to print the graphic on.. Found a scan of the graphic and had to clean it up in photoshop.. Gave up searching for the part after emailing every pinball dealer I could think of.. Will put up thread when happy with it..

I got it from ebay, didn't work very well though as the ink isn't thick enough, i.e. the printed sections are still semi transparent which doesn't work well with GIs anywhere near under them..

What I did instead was cut out a piece of perspex and then print onto photo paper, carefully cut it out to shape and then use clear contact (like we used as kids for school books) to stick the printed cutout to the underside of the perspex...  Worked OK, the only real problem was the photo paper I used was too thick, a thinner paper would work better, when I get a chance to do it again...

The cut out printed graphic, edited in photoshop to get look right...

The cut out placed down onto an upturned piece of contact

Placed the perspex on top and trimmed the excess contact, not perfect but thinner paper would work better I think!

Not sure if I understand you properly, but using the other product, could you have sprayed like an off white paint on the underside of the decal to improve the transparency effect with the gi's?

Yeah that would have worked fine except with the one here I was trying to do I have transparent areas so would have been messy trying to mask off those areas...

Looking good - If you dont like messing around with paint & masking tape try using a photo paper white backing.
I have a missing centre plastic on my MissO. I reverse printed a waterslide decal & attached. I then printed the white on self adhesive photo paper & used this as the backing. Not perfect but did the job.
