Remember the rat and possum infested EM I had and steam cleaned.. well this is it. Its meant to be a GTB KING KOOL and the game was brought to me to " get going".. no restore, simply get it up and running as a game. Thought at the time that this was a bit odd, but im up for a challenge and took on this stinking mess.
Once the relays were cleaned of rancid piss and the dropping removed, I could start work on fixing the machine.
First of all.. this game has had some interesting hacks done to it... I don't have a schematic for this game so had to go in and repair by watching what triggered what etc.
Ok.. the playfield is not as it should be.. There are 2 stand up targets that have been added to the PF... holes cut for these are pretty ugly
The 2 spinners have been removed..
But switches are still in place and wires piggy backed to make the additional stand up targets score..
Inside are a few logic modifications... I have no idea what this additional wire does or is meant to do.. its obviously fallen off what its meant to join to.. but what??
This wire has been cut and im not sure whats its meant to attached to.. up in the head?? other end goes to the 6V fuse in the cabinet
Well after a lot of cleaning and adjusting of each relay, I managed to get this game to fire and actually play... its a case of methodically removing each relay, checking its operation and replacing. Daniel ( DDSToys) sent me a replacement score reel as the coil had fried in one and oh boy, aren't these fun to replace!
I could play a game, but I couldn't get it to score. This had me stumped for quite a while and I spent a solid afternoon going round in circles not actually fixing the fault. Once I cracked the shits I decided to go back to basics and check absolutely everything.. its at this point that I found the slam switch on the bottom of the cabinet was open. This is odd, as I shouldn't be able to play a game in this situation, but play I can so I soldered it shut and lo and behold... the game started scoring!
A bit more adjusting and I can get the game to play either one or two players and im starting to think that ive finally got the game to play 100%... well, maybe not.. The 1000 and 10,000 reels on player 2 will not reset... Ok.. back to the set of switches inside the assembly and all check OK.. also check power to the coil and EOS switch and all is OK... check control relays for 10,000, 1000, 100 etc.. all are OK. So now im really stumped and im starting to wonder if my cut line to the 6V fuse has anything to do with it..
The game plays 100% apart from this fault.. so it has to have something to do with this wire yes?? Who the hell knows!
But.. after a bit of playing around I find out that if I short the bottom 2 sets of switches on the score reels together, the 1000 reel resets and so does the 10,000..
Heres my hack..
So my understanding is that the cut wire in the cabinet goes to a closed switch which then goes to the head and allows the 2 sets of switches on the score reels to talk to each other.
Its taken me about 3 1/2 full days to get this running.. a few niggly faults to iron out, but the logic is now there and the machines plays as it should.
In all honesty, im amazed I managed to get this running.. she's an ugly machine with horrible PF touch ups, hand painted caps, holes in the PF for extra targets, hand painted cabinet, rat piss and crap all throughout.. rust and more rust!!!
But apparently its " someones baby" rescued from a barn... id hate to see their parts machines..
