factory reset error
« on: August 10, 2015, 07:28:46 PM »
My tz with a rottendog cpu and remote battery pack is displaying this again. Haven't checked the batteries but what gets me is that all settings are ok including highscores. Why is this so? I know that the batteries on my tz last quarter the time if not worse than any of my other games. The batteries are usually stone cold dead for some reason when I get this alarm.

What can explain the batteries dying 4-5 times quicker than my other games and is there a solution? Same batteries are used in the other games.

TZ uses a "real time clock" circuit for the play field clock time display, which uses the batteries.

You can swap to a nvram chip and never worry about batteries again, but won't power clock circuit.
Also require soldering to install, unless a socket already fitted.

that's terrible for say out in the field games. Is there a setting to make the batteries last like other games ie. Turn off clock function? Thanks

all wpc, wpc-s and wpc95 have a real time clock in the asic chip. thats why if you use the NV ram you will all ways get the "set time and date error" when you turn the machine on or go into setting.
i would be checking the diode for the batteries, not sure of the diode number on the rotten dog board,
if this is faulty then the batteries would be getting fried every time you have the machine turned on.
simple way to check this is,
remove the batteries,
turn machine on,
use your multimeter on the + and - battery connector (rotton dog cpu)
if you have any voltage (0.5 to 5v) on this connector then the diode is cactus,
do any of the leds on the cpu glow after u have turned the machine off? if so this will indicate that one of the other diodes on the cpu board are faulty.
or you may have a faulty ram chip or it could be a design fault on the Rotton dog cpu board
