Cftbl kiss light problem
« on: May 05, 2016, 01:56:41 AM »
My creature is doing something weird. The kiss inserts are lighting up in attract mode as they should. During gameplay they don't light up for the skill shot or each time a letter is collected. When kiss is complete only the k lights up. Finish a game and they all start working again. Any ideas? Cheers  !@#

Try something simple first - resolder the pins on the lamp board.

Could it be a setting that has been changed from easy to hard? You could try a factory reset.

Do the lamps work as expected during diagnostics?

The letters don't light up when tested individually but light up when all lamps selected. I will reflow lamp board tonight to see if any change.

Do the other lamps in the column light up in individual test mode? 10 million, 20 million, 30 million and special.

None of those light up in test mode but all do in attract mode.

Do any of the kiss lamps or the other column 2 lamps light when you single lamp test all the other lamps? This may prove whether there is a break in Column 2 which then is shorted to another column.

Interesting fault they work in attract mode and not in test mode. I'd be interested to know what others think. I would give the ASIC chip on the CPU a press to make sure it is seated properly or has a bad connection. Im not sure how the CPU controls lamps in attract mode compared to single lamp test.

Just flipped the pf up. Can't believe I missed this or should I say can't believe someone actually purposely shorted the wires.

That would certainly explain the strange behaviour you were observing. @.@

Cut the culprit. No lights on that column at all now. No power at j137-2. Bad Q97. Will sort that. Or maybe I'll just hack into another column   %.%
Found some other nice work whilst pulling power driver out. In the high power section of display driver there was three resistors soldered in a row in the one position. Like a rainbow coming out of the board but no gold to be found anywhere.
Thanks guys for the help.

Great job! It amazes me how people fix problems. It most likely took more time and labour to do that than fix the original problem.  !@#
