Repaint or Waterslide Decal??? STTNG
« on: May 02, 2009, 05:47:02 PM »
Hi guys

I have a STTNG that has nasty wear near the flippers

Just want a few opinions on how to repair.

Should I "repaint" the wear or should I try to manufacture a decal to cover it then mylar over the top of that?

I was thinking maybe a "water slide" decal may be worth a try. But i need a good scan of a good playfield for that.

What are others thoughts?

Has some one got a STTNG that they could scan the part of the play field that is damaged on mine so that i can play around with waterslide decals.

Thanks in advance

To me the wear is somewhat surprising in that it is only one side, and only some could potentially have been flipper wear (the flipper arc does not cover all the wear).

Do the STTNG generally wear more near the LHS flipper or is the damage unique to this machine?

Not sure...but it looks like could be related to the flipper.

The flippers are being rebuilt so should not happen again if that was the case.

I would be interested on the input of the resident playfield resto gurus on this......

Given its in a high ball travel area, I would think a decal may not be the best option, and being right in front of the flipper area you will see it...Is the machine a keeper?

The area looks as if it could be painted fairly easily....If you can get a scan of the area on a good machine and get some masks cutout, then airbrush?

Were the STTNG diamond plate?  I guess it can be cleared over the top otherwise mylar would be a realistic option....

Would prefer to paint.

The machine is probably not a keeper so paint is the better option.

But need a good scan

If I used the waterslide was going to mylar over the top. Just want to see how it looks
