Stern Lightning
« on: June 10, 2016, 03:42:14 PM »
Hi all

I have an opportunity to buy a project Stern Lightning for $300. Only problem is that it has a dodgey looking home made backglass and a badly planked playfield. Does anyone know if a repro playfield and backglass have been done for this title, or does anyone out there have, or know of a decent playfield or backglass??

Cheers.. howzat

G'day guys,

Just an update to this thread, Ian went ahead and bought the Stern Lightning after he and i did a nearly seven hour round trip about a month ago to pick up this game, and a Wms Flash that i bought for $230 (bargain of the century that one!! more on that game later).

Anyway back to the Lightning in question, they guy selling offered it to me initially but i only wanted it as a parts machine and wouldn't pay the $300 he wanted  *.*
It had a dodgey looking home made backglass, dead speech board and worn (but repairable) playfield. Ian (howzat) decided he wanted it instead so it is now sitting at the end of my work resto queue.

The lack of a backglass was a pretty major stumbling block as far as i was concerned, but i have sorted that problem now after finding a translite on ebay which i bought for the game, that arrived today  #*# Pics below.

I'll add some pics of the game later on.. the home made backglass will give you all a bit of a laugh  :lol

Thats the new translite Gav, not the home made BG. Its not a perfect copy i dont think but its a thousand times better than what came with the game in question.

I'll take some pics of the game and post them tomorrow.

And last pic showing the bag of goodies that was part of the deal, new coils/globes etc.

Interesting backglass  :D :D

This is a very good title. I've wanted one for years, but all I've ever been able to find is a playfield. I just need the rest of the game. Happy to help with pictures etc, as my payfield from memory is really good and fully populated.

I think Lightning will be a fun game to add to my collection  I was happy to get the translight as that was my main concern

To have a upper p/f game is new to me.   I always wanted either Flash Gordon or B/knight , but there quite pricey and dont seem to come up very often .

Mitch will replace the timber on the B/box paint the c/door and tidy up the P/feild  and Ill have a great game    a     keeper

 I carnt waite     Howzat

I think Lightning is up there with Meteor as one of the best classic Sterns, great pick up.
