STERN SS MPU issue - feature lights and all displays locked on

strange issue I've never seen before - my trident pinball fires up ok and can be played but all the displays always show all zeroes and all the feature lights are on. Sound and coils are all ok.

I've done the following:
1. reflowed the solder on all the J1 pins.
2. re-seated all the plugs
3. re-seated chip U10

any ideas?

SOLVED - bad display.
