Looking For Someone To Put a new Playfield in Williams Flash
« on: August 22, 2020, 08:17:14 AM »
Hi all, nearly sold my Flash the other day as the playfield is old, worn and planked with sunken inserts ect.

I thought it was worth asking if someone here had a NOS playfield sitting waiting for a chance to live or had a contact that restores older playfields etc.

Not interested in doing the work myself, but the cab on the machine has been redone already and just needs a new playfield to bring it back to it's glory.

Chances of finding NOS would be low. You would need to also have some work done to it if it has not been looked after. CPR will more than likely run this playfield sometime in the future, so that would be your best bet. As to replacement - Based on your location, you would contact Mitch @Mr Pinbologist

Thanks mate, thought it was possible someone would have one stashed away. Would it be something that could be given to Hot rodded pins (if that's the guy i'm thinking of that does Kurts alternate playfields)?

I'm not taking on any new resto projects at the moment, as far as FULL restores or even cab or playfield restores go at least.. the shed (aka Pinbologist Central) is currently full beyond capacity  ^&^
Having said that though, three games are due to leave soon so i'd be willing take on a playfield swap if you happen to find one or get yours restored elsewhere  ^^^

No worries Mitch, i'll contact Tim and see if it seems worthwhile. i don't wanna spend another 6k on a 5k machine.

Playfield swap won't cost $6k. Full Restoration won't cost that much. Finding someone not busy will be the hard part.

Yeah i spoke to tim, but still worried about overcapatilising it with a full playfield resto, i might speak to Mitch about it next time he's here as the playfeild art is fine, there's no wear, just sunken inserts that affect the ball.

Have the inserts simply "sunk" into the timber ? Or are they concaved ? Nearly every Flash I've seen has sunken inserts, and you can fix this by removing the insert, and then re-gluing them into the playfield. You then use a sharpie to draw in the insert borders and you are done.

Concaved i think mate. It has Mylar or a protector on it too.

If it has mylar, then it would be a big job removing it to get to the inserts. However, if it is contact, then it MAY come off easy. If it is annoying you and you don't want to take any risks - I'm thinking one of those playfield protectors would work to alleviate the concaved inserts for now.

probally the best option Mitch had a 3 flash pinballs a long while back
I think they are all sold ?

I had three, all sold ages ago. Refurbished the best one and sold it.. the last two were sold as parts machines.. dumbest thing i ever did as they would've been a good source of spares for me.

Ah yes i remember now! wasn't wanting to sell at that time, id intended on doing one up for myself and maybe do the others up to sell.. well those plans went out the window when circumstances changed and i sold one to my cousin, the remaining two sold to Joel from Pinball Trading Co who then sold them to someone in Newy.. well not that long ago i recognised the cabinet from one of them in Bill's Big Ass van last time he was here.. heading up to Qld
