Backglass Box - Project to build
« on: May 09, 2009, 12:51:41 AM »
Hi all,
Here is a little project I knocked up recently, so that I can store all my Pinball backglasses safely without risking being damaged with other crap being piled on top of them.

It is simply a box made out of 19mm chipboard which has a woodgrain laminate finish.
I got all the materials from a salvage yard and it cost about $35 to make.
It hold 11 backglasses.

The dimensions are:
765mm length
455mm wide
640mm height

The dividing " runners" are 19mm x 42mm pine and 19mm x 90mm pine.
As you will see I only used 4 of the wider 90mm runners because this allows for slightly narrower BGs to be stored.
As it is the box will store the most common sizes of backglass ie: Bally, Stern ,Williams and Gottlieb.

The overall height could probably have been a bit taller but this was governed by the sheets of chipboard which were already that height and also, I didn't want to risk it falling over.

Simply make the box and screw it together with chipboard screws and put a 90 degree angle bracket on each corner so it doesn't come apart.

With the runners, make the 22 you need plus another 11 so that you can use these as spacers to divide them. It will be a tight fit putting them all in but its easier to do it this way because 19mm pine warps and bends really easy.

Pre drill the holes in the actual box so you can screw in the runners easily and use at least 3 or 4 screws for each runner to keep them straight.

You might need a bit of leverage to get out the spare runner/ dividers.

Put a bit of high density foam on the bottom and your in business.

Mines tucked away in the walk in robe where its not too hold or cold and its dark and best of all no dampness.

Hope the pics come out ok.

Cheers
Chris
