Bally Centuar
« on: March 30, 2024, 09:48:02 PM »
Hi Everyone

Been a long time .

After selling all my pins over 5 years ago now and moving over to Tassie I have decided that's its now time for me to get back into the wonderful world of pinball.

I've always been a SS man and although I have never played a Centuar it has always been a title that has interested me. i have found one for sale here in Tas that looks very nice from the gumtree ad. What I have noticed is that the price of pins has really gone through the roof. I'm more than happy to pay a fair market price and would like to know if this one is fairly priced for the condition and title before I make the 4 hour drive to check it out.

If you have the time to have a quick look at the link and get back to me with your thoughts that would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the link  www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/moonah/other-electronics-computers/centuar-pinball-machine-reduced-9k-firm/1320013328

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Tim

Hey Tim,

I also moved to Tassie almost 3 years ago now.

I will say it is hard to find many pins for sale here, the one you are looking at is probably right for the current market provided all that he mentions is true. But I am no expert, and the market is softening a bit of late.

Also, just in case you are unaware...Haggis pinball are remaking Centuar. It is more than the one you are looking at though, just thought I should mention it.

Going by the 4 hour drive comment I take it you are far north?

Think i sold my restored Centaur for 8k or 9k at the peak a few years ago.

Can't see the pics as the ad is down, assume you bought it, good game.

I have a Haggis on order, fingers crossed.

I think you can consider your Haggis order deposit as sunk money.  If they can't deliver their orders of Fathom that were paid in full, I can't seem them ever getting to Centaur.

I believe they will, but, I don't have one on order.
If it isn't broke, it isn't pinball.

Thanks for all your replies. Been watching that pinball for the last couple of months and right when I decide to take a look its gone always the way. I might head over to Melbourne in the near future and pick something up over there seems to be a lot more to choose from.
Cursed I'm in St Helens only a 3 hour drive to Hobart for some reason I had it in my head it was in Huon Valley which is a four hour drive from here. How are you liking Tassie I'm loving it best move we have ever made from inner city living to 35 archers in the middle of the bush totally off grid with nothing but wildlife and nature to look at out the windows.
Pinoffski that may be my old Gorgar hard to tell but it did have a nice playfield. I paid about a grand for it and took it over to Daniel who got it all running properly for me from memory I think he put a reconditioned speech board in it as well.
Cheers
Tim

Beautiful part of the state. Same as you mate, from a suburban neighborhood to a couple of acres in Westbury about 30 minutes out of Launceston. Best decision we ever made.

If you are ever out this way, hit me up. Happy to have you over for some games.

That also goes for any regular members that happen to come down to Tassie, just let me know.  ^^^

Seems Tassie is a popular "retirement village" for us old pinheads.. Get in touch with the "Tassie Pinball Mafia" - a GREAT bunch of pinheads that will assist you with locating pinballs.

Regarding the SS market - I remember $5K was too much for a nice Centaur in 2010.
Prices have changed dramatically, but I think the downturn in the economy and the cost of living may shake the tree a little and luxury items such as pinball will be for sale more often.
$9K for a nice centaur is just over market value in my opinion - But I'd need to see detailed photos.

As for remakes etc - if you can't buy from existing stock etc - don't bother. Too many horror stories and people never learn.
