I think this means that the jumpering on your board is set to default to German, so when you took the game ROM our it has reset. You can navigate and change it to English, although re-jumpering the board now would be handy so you can see the default language in one you can read! :)

I'll dig up the info.. ..

Best choice is to rejumper the MPU.

If it's coming up in German, W18 is missing. Either replace W18, or remove W14-W17.

Either will work.

Here's a pic with a W18 replacement that I'm not real proud of at this point, but was a challenge for me when I first got into pins

I don't see anything wrong with that John, looks clean.

I've seen far worse attempts at installing jumpers into CPU boards!

had the same problem with my pinbot.
different mpu though.
after i installed the jumper i could actually read the words.

with system 11 i found even if i changed the language in the settingsto english (without the jumper installed) the custom message would still come up in german, but when i replaced the jumper the custom message would come up in english.

i dont know if its the same with the mpu in WH 20  !@#

when you had the old roms in was it in english? and was the jumper installed?

You can set a WPC MPU to display English in adjustments, but if you change batteries or ROMS, it reverts to whatever the board is jumpered for.

Early Sys11s had the language jumper (W7 IIRC), later ones needed a ROM change (U26 on some, U26 and U27 on others)

Regarding the quality of the repair, nowadays I either put in a zero ohm jumper to match, install DIP switches like the IJ and later games have, or just remove the other jumpers, since all out or all in = English

I do the same here - either a zero ohm link or dip switches. Just sounded like you weren't happy with the quality of your work...

You understood correctly :) It's not real clean compared to my current standards.
