Gorgar 404 problem?
« on: October 18, 2009, 06:15:52 PM »
Hi. I'll try and explain as clear as possible, bear with me.

OK when a ball is lost, down the middle or the sides, it returns to the bottom of the machine but will not kick back out for the next ball. 404040 appears on the displays. I almost sure i have read about this on a Gorgar that was being sold on Ebay before, and was not a big problem, but i'm not sure.

Anyone with a Gorgar know what's going on here? I have no instruction manual yet for the machine. Thanks.

when you play it before the ball goes down does it score and make sound affects?

here is a link to the instruction booklet http://www.ipdb.org/files/1062/Williams_1979_Gorgar_Instruction_Booklet.pdf

I'm getting sound effects, did not think to look at the score !@) but all solenoids on the machine aren't working either. Opened up the back box and there's one blown fuse in there.

To go a bit deeper (i did not mention this before cause i thought it may have been a separate problem), one of the drop targets was getting stuck, not dropping properly, and this caused the solenoid coil underneath to burn out, so i fixed the target (plastic casing in front of it was slightly bent at the end, jamming it). I'm waiting for a new coil, will replace the fuse and hopefully should be right from there, i think :D.

Thanks for the link Beaky ^^^, I've downloaded that manual but i don't think the whole thing is there. I'm only getting about 12 pages, just seems incomplete to me !@#.

Cheers Beaky.

OK replaced the fuse, kick out now works, all solenoids now work, just waiting for a new coil to put under drop targets. Still don't know exactly why the coil fried though, possibly the target was getting jammed when getting pushed back up causing the coil to overheat? Maybe a dud coil? Hopefully nothing too serious, time will tell. I'm actually finding it enjoyable opening the thing up and helping my brother work on the machine. ^^^

no probs
when you replace the coil just make sure its is not staying energised when you turn the pin on.
if it is staying on all the time it will burn out your new coil.
and if that is the case you may have a blown transistor or 2.

Sure, thanks mate. I'll pass the info on to my brother, he understands all that kinda stuff, you are all handy to have around. Cheers.
