Williams System 3 wont Boot
« on: December 24, 2009, 06:13:30 PM »
Guys,

Had a freind call me whom has a Williams System 3 or 4 game.  He said it wont boot.  When you turn on the game both LEDs on the CPU stay on.....

If he removes the GAME ROM he can get the CPU to start in AUDIT mode.  So he ordered a new GAME EPROM bit still has the same issue with the EPROM in both leds stuck on, take it out and it boots to Audit mode.

I have not seen this game, so dont know what is happening,  Has anyone seen this before and have any suggestions?

Cant remember the name of the Game but it starts with P...

Thanks Dean

5101 RAM?

Maybe,  do you think that would cause the system to fail to boot ONLY when the game ROM is installed?  Normally when the 5101 fails the game will go straight into audit mode with the game ROM installed.  This wont, only goes into audit mode with the game prom removed?

Might want to test the socket on this Dean. Sounds like the game MIGHT be trying to read the ROM and not getting the right signals. With it removed, it goes straight into audit mode due to lack of ROM programming..... my guess is that with only half a program being read the CPU locks up.
This is just a calculated guess though.. id have to read up my notes on sys 3 -7 again to really go further.
What made your friend remove the ROM??? Its the last place id be looking for a fault when we have interconnectors, PIA chips etc to eliminate first

Yes, Pokerino

Here's me in front of a Pokerino that was delivered NEW the day before this pic - so it was ONE day old out of the box!

Not that many of those around.  Terrible art, however Steve Kordek has said that it is one of the best games he designed.   !@#
