GTB "yellow dot" flipper coils?

What do those with EM experience think about the GTB higher power yellow and orange dot flipper coils.

I've got to get some parts for Surfer and as one flipper coils is burnt out it is to be replaced. It's an A-5141 and I see that PBR sell A-5141, A-5141B  and A-5141A.  The As are yellow dot, the most powerful and the Bs are orange dot that fall between the two.  I guess that the higher power coils just have a few turns removed from the initial stroke winding, so in theory you could adjust them yourself.  Cliff's guide say the yellow dots are about 10% more powerful.

The coils all cost the same and I will make sure both flipper coils are of the same type. I plan to buy and install a flipper rebuild kit at the same time - are the higher power coils just a slack way of not having properly maintained good condition flipper mechanicals? Or do you notice a difference in game play?

Surfer has a set of drops up near the top of the playfield, so maybe the extra coil power will be beneficial and I guess will make the game faster.

Any thoughts, comments, particularly from those with experience with higher power coils appreciated.

The consensus is - "High Tap" the transformer, or install "hot" flipper coils.

"High Tap" - All coils fire with more strength

"Hot" Flipper coils - Just the flippers are stronger

Do both - and you will need a new plastics set !

"Hot" coils are a good idea for pinheads that have several DMD machines and are used to playing FAST machines. So an EM is a bit of a borefest. "Hot" coils make the shots faster.

I recently restored a GTB Canada Dry and the owner wanted hot coils because the upper target bank is a long way from the flippers. Worked a treat - but - When in sections where the targets are already dropped, the ball hits the rubbers so fast the ball "jumps" off the playfield and hits the glass - but not all the time.

My "personal" preference - Clean and wax the playfield often, and you won't need to modify the machine. Canada Dry is a machine that benefits from "hot" coils. If you are rebuilding the flippers with new parts and you love EMs - You don't really need "hot" coils. Maybe buy a set and then swap them over - just for the experience ?

My jungle princess has standard coils and it slams the balls around once it was set up right    But i dont have drop targets right up the top

i installed yellow dots and switched over to high tap as recommended in marvins guide on a top card. I really like it. Have been on for three years and no lightshield breaks after virtually daily play. if you leave the acron nuts on, but not touching it gives the shields a bit of movement if the ball kicks up. worth trying,  its easy to reverse if you dont like them as suggested.
