Gottlieb 6 segment display Broken pins
« on: January 21, 2011, 04:31:27 PM »
Hi Guys,
Just thought i might share a repair i did on my Time Line.
Some segments were missing on player 4 score display. (very annoying when friends were over).
After tracking the problem down to broken pins/tracks as they exited the glass wafer i wasted a couple of hours trying to solder these together.
With only the outer edge of the track visible from between the glass wafer I gave up with the solder.
I remembered a product that was a conductive glue so off to Jaycar in Geelong.
The very helpful guy behind the counter put me onto a product called Wire Glue now for ten dollars what the hell why not give it a try!
So i took it home kept the glass still by using a little hot glue on the display which was wobbling around and probably caused the problem in the first place.
Put two layers of the wire glue onto the pin making sure to get plenty on the glass in the vicinity of the track and let it dry overnight.
Then i put a little super glue over the repair to help hod it together.
So far so good it all works for how long i don't know but we'll see.
Hopefully this will help someone else.

cheers
Wally

Neat.  ^^^

Probably worth ensuring the glass is really secured to the board to stop any possible movement that might break the connection.
“If you wanna escape, go up to a pinball machine. There’s a magic button on the front that takes you to a world under the glass and makes the the rest of the universe disappear.”

Looks good Wally - I've also heard of people using a dremel to attack the glass near where the trace comes out to expose more of the wire to solder too.
