Couple of Cab Resto questions
« on: March 28, 2011, 04:05:51 PM »
Hi all,
With regard to the two grooves worn into the front panel from the
Lockdown bar, do I leave these as is or fill with bog?
The other question is with the holes from siderail nails, is the new paint
Enough to give new nails some bite or should I be gluing some toothpicks in them?

Cheers
Dave

Gday Dave ..
Its personal preference with the lockdown bar grooves .. I haven't bothered with the 2 I've done so far but neither were that bad.

Re the nail holes .. recommend the toothpicks

Cheers
Dave

Toothpicks and some PVC glue.

I generally fill and paint - however thats generally when I've replaced the lockdown bar.  The newer repro's don't seem to bite in as much (or fit as good either).

If using the same, I'l probably sand and leave as it will only dig into the filler and look worse.

Rail holes - I wouldn't fill...As suggested tooth picks or a wooden skewer (thin) will do the trick.

You could also use matches, toothpicks can be a bit thin and are tapered, matches are straight.

Thanks for the info, grooves are not to deep and using same
Lockdown bar, will get some sticks tommorow.
Hey Boots I'm following some advise you gave a while back re
Painting cab, going with the maxi psi followed by acrylic auto paint.
Will start a thread, might get a few pics up later tonight.
Cheers
