GTB Soccer - Starts game however won't progress ball/player
« on: December 21, 2010, 07:49:15 PM »
Hi there

I am currently very close to finishing up a GTB Soccer. After going through the game, I got to the stage of turning it on today.

This game was bought as a project so I have no idea when it last worked and had assumed everything needed appropriate attention.

The first issue is that adding credit starts a game however the start button does nothing.

The bigger issue is that once the game starts, the ball is not kicked into the outlane and keeps the drain trough switch activated. Despite the ball sitting in the trough, the flippers work and all features will score, other than the top kickout holes. Manually activating any of these switches has no effect and the associated solenoids (all A1496) won't activate.

Investigating under the playfield, the kickout holes and the drain trough are all connected and each connect to the "Add bonus delay relay" and the SB1 and SB2 latched relays on the control bank (Reset Control relays).

The SB1 relay had been previously worked on and I needed to install new switch blades as the long switch wasn't being tripped when the latch fell.

Unfortunately, I don't have the schematic so I can't trace the connections otherwise. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know

Thanks

Ric

Check the Ball Count Unit Stepper. Just wondering if it is sluggish.

Do you have the first Ball light on ?

I am pretty sure the first ball light is on - however I have removed the backglass so it is hard to tell.

Will have a look at the stepper. It was pretty gummed up when I was fixing it so it has been rebuilt - will check it out.

Thanks for the reply Nino

Hi Ric,
I have a Gottlieb 'Top score 1975' which is a similiar layout to 'Soccer 1975'. Both have the same backglass animation, kick out holes etc. Your problem could be as simple as a switch not making or a connection. Here is a part scan of a 'Top score' machine where you should be looking first. Not sure if this can help as may differ to your machine schematic, however gives you some direction. I have circled some areas where you need to check.

Thanks Greg

Had another go at it today.

The credit issue has been resolved (I think someone made an adjustment back in the day).

The game now will either start a game as before albeit with the same problem or will have the score motor continually turn withthe little F (0-9 relay) clicking in the back box.

Will check out the schematic and see if I can progress further tomorrow

G'day Ric,
As for the score motor continually turning, sounds like one of the player one score wheel reset switches is not making good contact when a score unit is displaying zero.  There are 3 switches on each 10, 100, & 1000 score units (usually only two on 10,000 score unit).  The switch closest to the metal mounting plate is the "reset" switch.  These usually have two pairs of contacts for the single switch which should be closed when indicating a zero on the wheel.  A quick test (to see if it is a reset switch problem) while the score motor turns is to manually pull in the Player Unit solenoid once thus stepping the Player Unit off the "reset player one score wheels" position and onto the "reset player two score wheels" position.  As for the F relay clicking, this is normal operation while Player Unit sits on "reset player one score wheels" position & score motor turns (should stop clicking when manually operating Player Unit solenoid once).
