Unless you are planning to replace the lift channel, I'd leave it. Just remove the plastic channels.
If you MUST remove the channel, use a hair dryer to warm up the double sided tape holding the channel to the glass. Do not use any tools to remove it other than the hair dryer and a rag to prize the channel free. Hair dryer on warm and direct the air on the channel, not the glass. No heat on the glass, especially during the cold weather. What I do it lay the glass on a towel, and direct the heat ONLY on the bottom of the glass, so that minimizes any heat on any part of the glass.
Sometimes the channel can be removed by hand. Just keep in mind to NEVER use any tools.
