Free Spinning Tiger Saw Theatre of Magic
« on: September 17, 2010, 05:02:51 PM »
Here is a vid i made of how to install a spinning tiger saw on ToM for free...using an old computer fan motor and connecting it to the trunk motor - this way it spins when you hit the trunk, but as the saw blade is reasonably heavy, it spins for a while.

Anyway enjoy, and sorry about the sideways videos

That is a ripper! (pardon the pun)
I am going to install this on my TOM straight away.
I've Always wanted to have a spinning saw, but was put off by the outrageous price of the kit.
Thanks for going to the trouble of making a step by step video and sharing your brilliant idea.

Mod done successfully . . .
Runs perfectly. Cost zero.
Thanks again to Rob for coming up with this idea.
Now I'm inspired to do a similar trick on my Whodunnit? in the form of a spinning roulette wheel.
Need to find a toy wheel the right diameter and adapt it to run off the elevator motor output.
Will post a photo if it works as well as the TOM mod.

Nice mod - how do you ensure you get the saw centred properly?  If it was out even a little, it'd look all wobbly and probably kill the neatness of the whole thing..

Getting it centered properly is pretty easy - there is a hole where the bolt goes through and its pretty easy to estimate where to glue the motor on over the hole.  If you wanted to get technical you could trace out the exact diameter of the motor and draw a line around the central point.  The wobble in mine in the video was due to me pulling the plastic cover off the motor and not being back on properly (ie: in and out, not off centre from the saw mounting position).  This is just noticeable but does not worry me at all.

Would it be possible to enforce saw from those "Tiger Saw" flashers? From under the captive ball.
