Couple Flipper Questions
« on: September 18, 2011, 02:51:17 AM »
Hi All,

I am new to the world of old EM pinballs. Just purchased my first one, been playing for the last week through a few cycles to look for what may be needed to be repaired.

My Machine is a late 70's Gottlieb EM. One thing I noticed is that when I hit the ball with the right hand flipper, the flipper gets push backwards behind it's normal resting position. If I hit the button once more, after the ball has been hit, it resets itself to the proper stop. Any ideas? sounds like something loose or broken.

How much hum should you hear when you push/hold the flippers momentarily?

So far the flipper issue and the fact my match unit is stuck seems to be the only issues. I have had it continuously count 100's (until I switched it off) twice so far. Not sure if it is going to be an issue or a result of the game not being played much for a few years.

Thanks

Sounds like the flipper bat shaft is loose. The "hum" could be a worn coil stop. To tighten the shaft, you will need the correct Allen key.

What game is this ?

Sounds like the match unit may also need a rebuild as well. Here's a link to the thread.

Is the Score wheel counting 100's ?  !@#
Sounds like the 100 point relay or a 100 point switch is continuously closed.

Thanks for the help.

The games is Solar City.  I am thinking of buying the rebuild kit for the flipper (both) and putting them in.

I will look into the loose shaft as that seems like a easy thing to check.

Got both these fixed. Both were relatively easy.

Flipper was loose coil stop and bat arm.

Took apart and cleaned the match unit. Also found one of the switches on it not making contact so I adjusted that. I then cleaned the contact on he 100 point relay switch which feed the match unit. Really all three of these were issues with the match unit.

Everything works 100% at this point.

Probably going to tackle some PF cleanup and touch-ups.

Couple questions:

How do you adjust the contacts? I had a tool that worked ok and I went slow on it.

How is the best way to adjust the new rubbers on the flipper and drop targets. I get a fair number of air balls hitting the glass?

Thanks.
