AFM Mothership - No LEDs
« on: December 11, 2011, 09:13:56 PM »
Hey guys, having a bit of trouble with my mothership. Seems to have lost all of the green chaser lights for the mother ship. As well as the 906 globe. Beleive it or not, happened when i changed the 906 over to a LED  !@#

Looked at the J connectors and looked ok. What else should i look for as the manual seems light on.

Not sure if it's related but the main arrow in front of the 3 bank target on the pf'd is also out??? Same globe! All other ships work however?

Thanks

some Leds or Led flashers are polarity driven. It shldnt blow anything, but I would check every fuse after obviously resetting machine with std globe back in etc. Then, i would change out the holder the bulb went into in case something melted inside etc.

Other than that, if that dont work, it may have travelled up the wiring to the nearest diode/resistor. Then its time for a multi meter and to check driver transistors etc.

Ohm out the short wiring harness that connects to the chaser board in the mothership. The wires crack and break on most AFMs and without ohming it, you might not realize it. Lotsa vibration here. Find the broken wire, fix it. Since it's everything that is out, I would guess it's the shared ground wire - but most I've worked on needed more than 1 wire spliced.

Broken wires, exactly. Struggling to get the mothership off, seems the nut is just turning the spring and I'm scared I will over twist to remove.

How strong/forceful can I be?

I'd say it's a hopeless case mate, the entire machine is a write off.. no option but to sell it off now  !*!

So got the mother ship off and two wires have broken away. Just got to find someone who may be kind enough to solder them back on for me  #@#

Hi TSPP,

If you're really stuck, I'm more than happy to pop round and fix it up for you.

Only charge would be a couple of games on your AFM ;) Awesome game...

I'm in Preston so if you're somewhere in the Northern 'burbs, be happy to help.

Cheers

Casper
