Hi Guys

Finally got around to working on my Galaxy after months of having it switched off.
I got a MPU processor kit from Big Daddy which had amongst other things two new ram chips and sockets.
Previously the machine would boot up but hang on third flash. Seemed to be a ram chip issue from what I researched.
Anyway, I de-soldered the old sockets, soldered in new ones, installed new chips. Booted her up and observed some really weird happenings.
First power on it chimed a couple of times and then the chime stuck on, a few more power ons and it booted up but wouldn't go into game play.
Finally after many power downs and power ups (sounds like bloody microsoft windows) I got it to play a game, the GI lights were really pulsing bright and dim, which shouldn't happen as I completely rebuilt the rec board a while ago.
Got up to fourth ball and the machine froze, chime sounded continuous.
Just powered it down and restarted it. Got it sitting now as I'm not sure if it might be a battery issue, I fitted a capacitor to it a while back and it has run right down.
Just wondering if it might have some more bad chips in it. The kit I got came with more new sockets and chips but haven't fitted these yet as I was keen to power it up and try a game.
Any ideas!!!

Cheers

Odd one...
GI lights should never pulse at all, they should be pretty much powered straight off the transformer.
But pulsing up and down sounds like a large cap interfering... you sure you have good ground from the large caps?

5101 CMOS chips the same speed ? usually a -120 or -150 denotes the speed.

Check the soldering and using the continuity setting on your meter, check the soldering work for each pin on the solder side through to the component side. Will be something simple.

Thanks guys.
Seems to have sorted itself out now. Just left it powered up for a couple of hours and seems pretty normal now, well as normal as it has ever been. Still awarding multiple games at around 200000. But the GI is steady now and game plays OK.
