I'm on the look out for another Stern. The titles i'm considering are AC/DC pro, Ironman, SM or a T3. Wish i could buy all four.

Try the AC/DC ofcourse. Not many newer Sterns for sale of late either i have noticed.

I'd love another but the theme would have to be very special to beat AC/DC

not unless they upgrade there quallity controll department.the main boards are practically all surface mounted components that are hard for the average jo to remove and replace.I hope the boards are made readily available for straight swap out.when 3 different coils are locked on,over 2 circuits, then the ic on the driver must be bad.correct me if i am wrong.all for now.not a happy camper here. ^.^ ^.^ ^.^

I am finding that move really hard to fathom (other than as a pure cost saving decision). The industry learned through Capcom's efforts that surface mount and pinball are not a good combination. Hopefully the techniques being used now might have improved the ability for this method to survive the high vibration environment.

I haven't got my AC/DC Pro yet, so haven't totally got the new in box bug yet, but theme wise I'd like a Family Guy (am yet to play it more than once unfortunately) and gameplay wise, have enjoyed Simpsons Pinball Party. Before AC/DC was unveiled, I was sure my first Stern machine was going to be Tron. Too many now!

Cheers!
Adam.

p.s. I think the Iron Man translite is absolutely awesome....put that on the list as well. haha

i am trained in surface mount as part of my mil-std certification.however the average home user can not repair these boards.not to mention STATIC damage that can lay dormant in a chip and then decide it will shit itself at any time.maybee after two balls of play.this is called latent defective.i hope stern see sense and go back to through hole components,or offer cheap replacement boards.

the cost of a pin these days is not the boards.there is only about $200 worth of board/components,in a machine.

Surely in 2012 these boards are fine. The boards appear to be well made, and technology has moved on from the older days.

Warranty is 6 months on boards ofcourse, and with them running in some locations hot, 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, surely a issue would show up pretty quickly. The other thing is that I have never heard on this forum ever, of anyone having a bad Stern board.

Beaky(Andy) has been repairing boards from every different pinball machine and has had hundreds of boards through his workshop and I have never seen a Stern board for a late model Stern go through there once. If these boards are better than boards from a few years ago, surely they have been designed to last.

I will ask AMD for a cost $ to replace each board (there are only 2), if a board had to be replaced, so to speak (ignoring warranty) and I will report back the actual costs.

please do so brett,i need at least five swap outs for my 10 grand.lol.they will not go the distance.
Would you send a maned spacecraft into the abis.knowing it had surface mount components on board.i don't think so.you should see what they send into space.the components look like the were designed in the 50's.very reliable.
