Gottlieb Spin Out no power on playfield
« on: June 09, 2012, 09:15:52 AM »
Hi,

Working on a Gottlieb Spin Out. I have been able to get it to reset the score reels and kick balls out. But other than the lights, nothing on the play field works. Kind of like its in TILT mode but not.

I'm going to dig out the schematics any thoughts on where to start looking?

Thanks

Did some more digging around.

Check all fuses they are ok.

The left and right rollovers work you can hear the chimes but the should net you 500 points but don't. Score reels didn't record it.  The rollover switches at the top of the play field seem to work as well. None of the pop or kick bumpers work or the flippers.

Thanks

Check / clean the Jones plugs. Look for loose wires on the males plugs.

Ok... make sure the fuses were checked out of the holders.
I WAS going to say that it sounds like you have no coil power, but this cant be if the chimes are working.
As Nino said.. make sure the jones plugs in the bottom are properly seated. It could well be that you have lost the power train to PF coils.. check all solder lugs, sometimes they look like they are attached but the wire plus solder is sitting just above the tab.. ive had this several times.
Just to be sure.... attached common from your DMM to the 0V on the transformer, then with the positive on your DMM, check each side of a non working coil... should both be at approx 28vAC... if its 0V or very close to it then you have lost power to those.
If you are at 28vAC then you have lost ground and need to look at all the YELLOW wires for connection

Got it working!

It ended up being a gunked up ball count unit. Now I can start the clean-up/restoration process. I wanted to make sure that things more or less worked before I started the restoration process.

I recently picked up two Gottlieb EM pinballs for $100 each. To get them both to a state where they "play" total cost $6. I've ordered new rubbers and some accessories for each. Now that they both run I am probably going to order new play field plastic pieces where available. At this point I'm not too sure of how far to take the restoration process. I kind of like the weathered look of the cabinets. My first pinball machine has a fairly scratched up cabinet but I like it. Looks worn in. I'm thinking at least redone play fields.

Thanks for the help
