Where to get QVE11233.0086 for TZ clock
« on: September 01, 2012, 07:26:18 PM »
Does anyone have 1 of these lying around, or know where to get them. From what i have read, they are a special higher rated opto for the TZ clock?

Thanks

Rob

That one may work in the hour board (but i'm not sure) but the minute board (where my problem is) definitely needs the higher sensitivity one.  Seems i might have to try and source it from overseas....

Thanks Beaky,

I tried a 'standard' jaycar opto, and it works fine in the test mode (even though other sites say it won't), i guess i'll see how it goes for a while to see if it lasts

Rob, the 'problem' using a standard opto is that they only barely switch low enough to toggle the switch line below half way so that the micro can 'see' that the switch has gone low.

To clarify:

Normal rail voltage is 5V
The micro 'sees' a low when the voltage falls below about 2.2V - anything above this is seen as a high.
Standard optos will switch down to (anywhere between) about 1.8~2.6V
If you are lucky (as you are in this case) you have a part that is switching below 2.2V and so it is working

This all depends of the batch and down to the individual part. Chances are if you tried another 10 parts from Jaycar, from the same batch - some might work, some might not???

In the long run you could never be certain that it will keep working as it is right on the edge....

I hope that makes sense???

Thanks Mike  -i thought it was something along those sort of lines (without knowing the technical details), in terms of it being on the limits of its operation.

Will see how it goes, then try and grab some from OS...
