Intermittent missing line on DMD
« on: May 10, 2013, 11:18:19 AM »
Hey guys
My Lethal Weapon 3 has just started to intermittently drop out one of the horizontal lines.
Sometimes when you start it's there sometimes it isn't.
It will appear and disappear at random during a game or not disappear at all.

Any suggestions what might be causing it?

Possibly the RAM on the driver board dying. Do you have another DMD driver board to swap in and try?

Might also be worth having a look at the metal pin/tab on the side of the glass.  Depending on the make of DMD, they can crack and can be soldered back together pretty easily.
Addicted to pins.

That was my first thought, could also be a dirty connection, try reseating both ends of the wiring loom going to the DMD and the board.
Could also be a cracked solder join on one of those header pins giving an intermittent connection

Yep ok I will check for the solder joints and connections as I don't have another driver board to swap out.
I have never worked on DMD displays before so hopefully it's an easy fix.

Thanks

try heating up the flex ribbon and apply presure along the conections.
