Aoyue 701 didn't suck. Does now.
« on: February 25, 2014, 05:32:10 AM »
Hi guys.

Bought this unit off ebay from china a few years back now.

Worked like a champ for about two weeks when the suction suddenly died.
Been sitting for awhile but I finally got in and had a good look at it.

Nothing obvious wrong externally, but on dissassembly found diode D6 (4742 zener) to be faulty.

Replaced and suction working again.

Unit was a bit tricky to dissasemle, having to desolder the switches, but a pretty simple fix overall.

Thought I vaguely remember someone on here had the same problem a while back. !@#

Steve.

I've used this desoldering station for 3-4 years now and apart from the Gun needing replacement under warranty, it has been worth the money. The importer no longer imports this unit, so parts are hard to find now. The only issue I have is that the nozzles become blocked too easily. I'm going to upgrade to a Hakko when this unit stops working.

It is great that you fixed it yourself  ^^^

Nice brand new Hakko 701 on ebay atm.

BIN price seems quite reasonable.
