when do operators release a nib game to the field
« on: October 20, 2013, 12:14:47 PM »
When do operators release new purchases to the field? Do today's operators release games differently to those in the good old days? Do they test nibs extensively if at all or do they basically unbox and ship out?

Has anyone in the past or currently believe they have been one of the first few to have played a game out in the field. I know I have never played a brand spanker in my life.
Still loving my Metallica Premium

yeah luke (LA Games) gets NIB's and sites them straight away including METLE's, HUKE LE, and currently a ST Pro and a WOZLE in Newcastle. I think he opens, puts in blades, leds (if they need them), shaker quick game and away it goes into a pub. Though what I noticed some lack the latest updates in them. I do give luke credit for siting beautiful new machines that otherwise I wouldn't have much of a chance to play, not many guys like him in that respect  ^^^.

As for the comparison to the past, would not have a clue.

Most pinballs that I played in the wild were between 1970 and 1983. I only remembef 3 NIB unboxed at the arcades. One was a BK at Hurstville where the operator gave me the first 5 games. I think most operators back then gave the machine a good test at their depot and then took them to sites. Most kids back then were on the lookout for new machines as they played so well. Mind you, the operators were much better back then at servicing and keeping the games tuned. A lot of times they gave the kids free games after servicing a machine.
If you don't remember the 70s then you were on drugs.
If you remember playing pinball in the 70s you were having a good time.
If you don't remember anything,  then read about it here,

He sold it on the "other side" lol for 14k ONO and it was gone on the same day as advertised.
Not sure if I should quote him but what I made if it was the popularity died off pretty quick.

Wow that didn't last long. Didn't he have it sited for like 2 weeks total? Wonder why it would sell for 14k Ono when Wayne has them brand new for 11k

maybe that is it, people may not be aware of wayne or trust that avenue given the MM promise....

I am still wondering what happened to all the original people that had money with wayne's venture of the MM, did they get first offers for this new manufacturer, did he pass the money on, did he give a refund.

In the old days there were unboxed, set up with Aussie Coin mechs and sited straight away. It the late 70's the games were unboxed, playfields stripped and contact adhesive was applied to the playfields. They were then re assembled, tested and then sited. There were new games going onsite in waves, and it was a hard job because older games the NIB were replacing had to be returned, cleaned, repaired and then sited somewhere else. There was always a domino effect. The NIB would go to the best or biggest location, and the games that had been earning well would stay, the ones not earning were moved on.

In the mid 90's, Dad's last locations still had Bally Paragon, Space Invaders, Star Treks, KISS' and a Playboy all earning money.

The old days were exciting as there were always new games arriving.

I think this one was worth more because it was a true WOZLE not a Aussie LE not that there's much different. He said the Star Trek and Avengers next to it were the best earners in the venue.
