Cue Ball Wizard problems
« on: April 29, 2014, 03:47:02 AM »
Given how many people have owned one of these over the years, I'm hoping this will be a relatively easy fix...

The Skill Shot isn't working anymore. Was fine yesterday, went to play a game tonight and nothing.

The Opto on the ramp is detecting the ball (if I run my finger past it I get the "Weak shot" sound effect) and the motor is moving the 8-Ball Shooter, but I can't get it to actually shoot anymore.

Where should I start looking?

I think the 8 Ball Coil is "Solenoid 10: Ball Shooter" and no, it doesn't.

Looks like I didn't pay enough attention to the fuses - F27 is blown and guess what it controls ;)

I'll pay Altronics a visit tomorrow morning and hopefully that's all that's wrong. Never a spare fuse around when you need one...

On the bright side I also need to replace the power lead and that looks to be much easier than I was expecting it to be.

Also check the mains fuse. If the game was from the USA, it will have the wrong fuse.

Replaced the fuse and everything is working as it should again :)

The machine originally came from Germany so it was already 240v, all that's left now is to put on an Aussie power lead so it can be Tested N Tagged :)

I replaced the power cable today, and now that the ground actually goes anywhere I've noticed the strange replay score bug (Showing scores like 523,??3,000).

However the 8 Ball Launcher keeps blowing fuses. First one lasted about an hour. Second one lasted less than 5 minutes.

I'm tempting to try a higher rated fuse but I'm concerned I'll just blow something more important. Tips?

Replace the 2 round white targets at the front of the horseshoe with normal switch blade targets and add foam to absorb the ball impact.  Bet those original smart switches are shot.

Well it worked perfectly for a few weeks anyway...

The fuse that kept blowing? Looks like it was protecting the coil. I foolishly over-fused it and the 8-Ball coil let out the magical blue smoke tonight.

I notice neither RTBB nor PBSP seem to carry a Gottlieb A19300. Is there anyway to work out if there is a suitable "similar"?
