Stern Meteor drop target issue. Bakelite replacement???

Hi guys, im trying to work out the fault with my Meteor "METEOR" drop targets. Seems this has been discussed before from what I read but I THINK my issue is related to the slop in the plunger/ bakelite. I've got about 2mm play. At the start of a game, intermitantly 1 or a few random targets on the meteor bank drop. ^&^

I've tried the adjustments suggested here in previous posts - all except filing the soleniod stop by 2mm. If I manually slide the plunger, I can see that the drop targets only just make it to the top of the lip to stay up, if I push the bakelite instead (avoiding the slop), the lift a couple of mm above and I reckon this will solve the issue.

So - my question is - where can I get bakelite to make a new section? Has anybody done this? Is there a suitable equiv?

Any advice would be great.

On another note - I finally gave up trying to get my Countdown System1 MPU board working again, am using the Ni-Wumpf reluctantly but reliably...  Should have gave up along time ago...

You can use nylon instead if you want to make your own, Acetal or Austlon is even better.

Im in Largs Bay, so only a 15 min drive. Definitely worth it, would rather make my own than keep having to pay freight for mechanical parts all the time.

Thanks Boots, bought a 3mm thick sheet for $10. $#$

Cut a piece and had to thin it with the bench grinder to fit in the Plunger (this was the hardest part).

Targets reset reliably every time now... They actually raise about 2mm above the stop every time now, so no more bad resets at start of game  *%*

I've added three pics, you can see the orig bakelite with the oval holes from wear, the sheet of Nylon, and the new piece fitted into the machine.

The only hassle was the thickness of the Nyon, I couldn't get around 2.7MM, it was 3mm only.

Boots - did you use 3mm sheet, if so, how did you thin it out (bloody stuff is damn hard)


So this Nylon stuff can be used to replaced all the worn bakelite for the plungers pretty quickly and have spare for Justin...

Great you have found a suitable material but for the record, in case it helps someone else, I have successfully used standard 1/16" printed circuit board with the copper etched off.

If you have access to a thicknesser then that is the easiest way, just cut one long strip the width you want and send it through.

Ahhh get it. No thicknesser, but I'll do similar with a plunger router and a couple of guides. Perferct, thanks
