Storing Playfields
« on: May 28, 2015, 05:37:35 PM »
What's the best method to do this?

I only have two, one is in a wooden box upright, the other tightly packed into a cardboard box on its side?

Should these be flat to avoid warping?

Flat, away from light, humidity and moisture would be my best guess.

I stand my playfields up.  Less chance of someone or something stepping or dropping on them and breaking them.  With the playfields packed away in boxes like yours Peter I don't think it would matter either way. If laid down flat, you would probably want to make sure they are fully supported in the middle of the playfield so they can't bow over time.

As Adam said, I think away from temperature extremes (heat, humidity and moisture) is the main thing.

Yeah good points Blair :) I actually nearly stood on mine so it's now in wardrobe against wall :)

As mentioned in my post, I was referring to playfields in boxes.  If they are in a box, as most playfields are shipped and stored in, the packing and support is on each corner of the playfield with no support normally under the centre of the playfield.  Step on it or inadvertently put some weight on it and there is a chance of damage.

Playfields take up much less room standing up and as long as the edges are protected should be quite safe.

Taken mine out of the box and laid flat on a special trolley and stored under a pinball.

Standing them up they will eventually bow as i left one in the box leading against the wall and it bow after twelve months.

What about screwing some side rails onto the stored playfield so you could stand it upright. This would give it some rigidity I would think, especially if they were the metal ones Williams used on some machines.
