Townsville Christmas Bash
« on: November 28, 2016, 10:23:55 PM »
Thought i would try and host a bash in the Christmas/New Year break for locals - of course travellers are welcome, however suspect it is quite unlikely given the time of year.

Comp is pending IFPA approval. But proposed format is as follows:

Date: Fri 30th Dec 2016
Time: 9am SHARP kick off, likely until 1pm ish (people welcome to turn up from 8am)
Where: Alligator Creek (15 mins south of Townsville)
Cost: $10 per person
Prize money:
Main event: 1st - 40%, 2nd - 15%, 3rd - 5%

10% to go towards maintenance etc

Proposed comp format is similar to the Townsville Open recently held, although with having 4 qualifying rounds instead of 3.

So:

Main comp:

Round 1:
4 player games on 3 machines.
Players grouped randomly
IFPA scoring (7 for 1st, 5 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd, 1 for 4th)

Round 2:
4 player games on 3 machines
Players grouped based on Round 1 seeding (tiered Swiss)
IFPA scoring (7 for 1st, 5 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd, 1 for 4th)

Round 3:
4 player games on 3 machines
Players grouped based on Round 2 seeding (tiered Swiss)
IFPA scoring (7 for 1st, 5 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd, 1 for 4th)

Round 4:
4 player games on 3 machines
Players grouped based on Round 3 seeding (tiered Swiss)
IFPA scoring (7 for 1st, 5 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd, 1 for 4th)

After Round 4, top 8 or 50% (whichever is lesser) progress to the semi-finals
Semi Final:
4 player games on 3 machines (each group will play the same mix of 3 machines).
2 groups of 4 based on seeding 1,3,5,7 and 2,4,6,8
Scores will be ranked for each machine, and the highest points go to the best score (ie: highest score gets 8 points (or same number of points as there are competitors), next best 7 points, lowest score 1 point).
The top 4 players with the most points totalled will progress to the Final.

Final:
4 player games on 3 machines.
IFPA scoring (7 for 1st, 5 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd, 1 for 4th)

In the event of any round having a tied rankings for the final or to make the cut for a qualifying round, those players who are
tied will play a multiplayer tiebreaker game on a single machine randomly
drawn.

I understand there might be some locals away, but also there will a few not working, so this should be a reasonably low key event for a bit of fun. Will likely throw a sausage sizzle or something easy on for lunch.

Machines should be: Spiderman, Indianapolis 500, Sinbad, Black Knight 2000, PAragon, Medieval Madness, Addams Family, Attack From Mars, Corevette, Creature From the Black Lagoon (hopefully i finish it in time!) and possibly Black Rose and Getaway High Speed 2.

Looking at capping this at 20, so let me know if you wish to attend.

A great day - thanks heaps to all those who attended - we had 18 in the main comp, and 21 in the Quickie Comp.

Our 3 year old was the youngest competitor, with a quite respectable 11th out of 21 in Paragon in the quickie comp!

A shot during the day

Some honourable mentions - Mick and Cliff just missed out on the semi finals cut for the main comp by 1 point after 4 rounds, on equal 9th.  My wife Melinda came 11th in the Quickie comp, and our 6 year old Lewis came 11th overall in the main comp.  Also congrats to Terry who was the only player to progress to the final rounds in both competitions and Kerry, who in first competition claimed 3rd place in the main comp.

Main comp results

1 Rob Milla
2. Alex McClarty
3. Kerry Koustenis
4. Chris Rutherford

Quickie Results
1. Mick Collins
2. Cliff Tucker
3. Terry Granshaw
4. James Ledez

Shot of Cliff and his fellow competitors during the Quickie final

And James (great effort from the 11 year old to come 4th in the quickie comp), just after a quick drain!!

Thanks again, and also thanks to my wife for putting up with us all.
