Hi everyone,

I live in northern NSW and am a newbie to the world of working on pinnies.  I'm wanting to buy a machine that I can renovate and put in my home games room.  I'm pretty good with a soldering iron, studied electronics about 30 years ago, am generally pretty handy with tools, have a huge shed to work in and have a lot of patience... but I don't know if that adds up to enough to get a good result... should be fun finding out. 

I'm thinking of getting a Twilight Zone as there is one available locally however I've yet to hear how much they want for it or check out what condition it is in.  I'd appreciate any tips people might have on buying either a TZ or other pinballs for refurbishing (I saw the amazing TZ refurb thread on this site, what an inspiration).

I'm really happy to have found such a fantastic Australian forum and am looking forward to getting to know people here.

Twilight is a great machine but is complex to work on....With the economy being a bit slow, there are alot of great machines at great prices.
But remember, pinballs are extremely complex so it doesnt hurt to just buy one in refurbished condition that is "ready to play" and give you and your family many hours of great fun...with professional sellers like Mark C from melbourne, check out his prices for a finished machine before you price up a project (or nightmare)....some machines start for a few thousand and alot of titles can be had for 3 or 4 grand....twilight will be 5 grand plus all day long, no matter where u find it. Fixing can be fun, but playing is better....There are alot of people who can offer help from these forums.
Give Mark a call from Child Amusements in melbourne, i am sure he could help u with a project or a "ready to go" machine. ^^^

Sounds like you have all the necessary attributes to begin your journey into Pinball Restoration. An expensive hobby, but it would have to be the most satisfying hobby I've ever heard of (are there other hobbies?)

Welcome Pajo, with a resume like that you shouldn't have too many dramas finding your way around the world of pins. Many of us have entered the hobby with very little technical knowledge (and some like me survive without still having gained any!)

Welcome aboard!

Sounds like you should be able to find your way around a pin just fine. TZ won't be a cheap title even if it isn't in great condition.
