drop target problem
« on: October 11, 2009, 09:39:46 PM »
Hi all, stripped my swep1 to bare bones to replace the pop bumper skirts and general shop out. Everything seems to work as before, even the right hand drop target that reports "r/h drop target down no working" or something like that.

What actually happens is the target in test mode will go up and down and during game play when the target is knocked down, it goes back up if it is supposed to. However, the target remains UP after a mission when it should lower itself as done by the left target. So I will do a ramp shot and sometimes get a drain because I wasn't expecting the ball to come back at me. So resetting this target is done by hitiing it down.

I know nothing about drop targets. What could be the problem or what needs adjusting/replacing.

BTW tried to put LED's on some of the inserts. In test mode these report as faulty eventhough they are lit. So I put the bulbs back.

Rob, the drop targets have a switch or opto to recognise when they have been hit down. I would check this switch / opto to make sure it is working. Also, check that it is plugged in - you said that you stripped the playfield, and some of the parts have plugs to make them easy to remove.

As for the LED's, the Pinball2000 has circuitry to sense the current going through the lamps. As LED's use far less current than an standard bulb, they will be reported as being faulty.

Thanks Owen, the problem was before the strip down, so I'll check out for loose or disconnected plugs. I don't get error reports on this now but the actual problem still exists.

Problem still exists where the RH target won't go down after completion of a mission. Tested the micro switch and ok and obviously the cable is plugged in otherwise the test would not register.

I'm thinking maybe ROM update as running v1.4 I think.

rom update fixed the problem

Nice work - it's easy to forget sometimes that pinball machines are part hardware and part software; a good ROM can make a big difference.
