TZ problem
« on: September 21, 2009, 04:00:40 PM »
I am experiencing a problem on my TZ machine that I hope somebody here can assist me to fix.

Every few games the sound drops out on the machine and instead of hearing the normal in-game sounds, all I hear is a "whoosh" sound, however I cannot find the sound sample in the Sound menu so I cannot determine which sample is playing. The volume level also increases when the problem occurs. If I switch the machine off and on, it may or may not fix the problem. If I keep playing, the problem usually disappears after a few games. However, the sound is so annoying that a few minutes of listening to it is too much! I'm not sure what could be causing the problem, I have reseated all of the connectors in the backbox but it didn't make any difference, and I do not know how to reproduce the problem. Has anybody experienced anything like this and/or offer some advice on what to look at?  @@^

I would try reseating all the ribbon cables on the driver board and CPU.  This 'cleans' the pins and has cured several bizarre sound issues for me in the past.

I'd be doing the same - reseat all the ribbon cables and check the cables to the speakers.

I turned the machine on last night and the sound problem was present from the outset, I did not even have to start a game. I went through the Switch Test to see if a switch was stuck on but couldn't find any problematic switches. I then opened up the backbox and reseated the connector on the WPC Audio Board, and the sound problem disappeared. I had done this previously and it didn't fix the problem, so I ignored this as a solution up until now. Hopefully if the problem re-occurs, the fix will be as simple as reseating the connector on the Audio board.

Interestingly, the "whoosh" sound that I described in my original post was a combination of the "Buy-In after Game Over" sample and the "Match Feature" sample - both of these sounds are missing from the Sound + Music menu.
