T2 Skull Drop Target Going Nuts and Now Not Resetting
« on: October 24, 2009, 05:31:18 PM »
Hey guys,

The drop target under the skull on the T2 doesn't want to reset. There's been a problem brewing for a while where it would fire 5 or 6 times for no reason, with the target popping up and down. Game still went, so it was one of those "I'll get to that" things.

This morning the solenoid still fired 5 or 6 times, but the target no longer comes up and down with it. Switch still tests ok and the solenoid still fires ok in test. So I'm thinking (i.e. guessing).... well a few things but at the end of the day I still am pretty lost so I'm not sure !@#

Anyone out there got any ideas to point me in the right direction?

Cheers,

Pete

Pete,

When testing the switch are you dropping a ball into it or finger from underside?

I'd probably check the diode on the switch too & visually inspect the wiring.

Thanks Marty.  Tested switch with finger from the underside of PF mate.  Have removed the diode and wiring from the switch, and will re-wire either tonight or tomorrow.  Bloody dinner (good thought it was) got finished then kids to bed, these things get in the way.

Diode seemed ok and continuity seemed ok.  But never can tell, so thought I'd satisfy myself that wasn't the problem.  Gonna work my way through....

Will keep you posted.

From experience its always best to test the switch with the ball (playfield down) as sometimes a finger can give false readings!

Will do mate.  Also re-wired the switch and diode, just to be sure it wasn't the problem. But on closer inspection I think I've found the problem.

Time to track down the part.....

Do you have a p/n for it Pete?

If you know someone handy with a TIG might be able to mend that one if you have trouble sourcing one.

The assy with plunger is A-11388-2
The plate itself is 01-10380

This part was broken on my T2 and has been broken on a few other games with that drop target assy I've owned, restored or serviced over the years.

Bay Area Amusements, Marco Specialties, and a few others have these in the US, I think someone on your side of the planet will have them as well :)

They are used on a lot of games, so you might buy 2 and have a spare. Especially if you're going to pay shipping from the US!

Yep, John's right on the P/N.  Can't find 'em on PSP, but Wayne seems to have them and have asked Tony up here.  He seems to think he may have some.

Should get something sorted this week ^^^

Thanks guys.

New reset plates arrived in the post yesterday - happy days.  Problem solvered ^^^

Also got some bling balls carbon steel pinballs from Tony (Pinball Shed) for ToM.  Was having a problem with the balls sticking in the trough, so added some extra washers between the PF and the trough to increase the incline on the weekend, added the carbon steel balls yesterday.  Fingers crossed, but no sticking as yet.

Was giving me the $hits.  It would happen every now and then when I played, but when my kids played, rest assured it would happen every second game.  They'd start yelling - Dad, the ball's stuck.  You know what it's like - drop what you're doing to go and solve the problem ^.^
