An ethical question
« on: January 30, 2010, 09:29:53 PM »
Hi Guys,

Thought i'd start a new thread as im sure people are sick of reading about my Pro Football dramas but i need some opinions. For reference and for the few people who havent seen my pro football thread heres the link http://aussiepinball.com/index.php?topic=477.0.

Now, the dilemma as mentioned in the thread, do i sell a machine that i have no idea how to fix? Ive had many a go, Daniel had a brief crack himself and still the cursed thing wont work. Its got to the stage where i get the shakes walking into the garage where its housed  %.%. Do i offload my problems onto someone else and buy a pin that im dieing to get (JP). Am i being stupid in being ethically concerned? Should i just pull my finger out and have a proper crack at it?

Opinions please!!

Thanks!

Rob sell it, advertise that it has an issue and sold as-is. Dont forget to mention all the new parts, and work done on it. The buyer will most likely be an enthusiast expecting it to need work, and have faults. You have persevered long enough, no one would feel negatively for you passing it on for someone else to tackle. Yes the bucks better spent on a better pin.

In my opinion - as long as you list / sell the machine as not working then I wouldn't think this is unethical at all.

I prefer to buy machines not working, that way it gives me a chance to fully strip and rebuild all components.

You should be enjoying your games, not giving you a headache.  You've had more patience with this game than I would have had!

If it helps contribute towards a JP - being a dream pin for you then I'd do it.

Dont feel bad about selling a non working machine.  I also prefer buying them not working and if you really dont like looking at it then its time to go.       We had the damn thing working lifted the playfield for the photo put it back down and it stopped so its only something very simple just not easy to pin point.

Why let something beat you.?  I say u need to simply find the correct person to fix it.
DO NOT GIVE UP ON YA DREAMS. I say never give up. When the going gets tuff, I say get the shits and ring more people more often and dont settle for no.
There are people who can fix this machine. Find the right person who is prepared to spend the time required to fix it.

Where are u located ? I will make some phonecalls and get a technician to contact you and get it fixed. Obviously, you will have to pay a reasonable fee to have a professional come to your house.

PM me all ya details. I wont give up on it. Dont get angry, get even, lets find the right person to get it fixed once and for all.

I am willing to try and help you.  ^^^

I agree with Daniel.

EMs are not for everyone and there is a market for Project machines. This does not come down to ethics, Rob - if you want to sell it - move it on as a project. Just state that it is a project machine - or a "non working game".

If you were local, I'd fix it for you, just so you can enjoy the machine. Don't let this deter you from EMs - maybe target a working EM from a member here next time you have an interest.

It may be a 5 minute fix - but it has taken a while to get it working - so I understand your position. JP is an awesome machine !

Ditto to that! (Maybe if we wait 6mths Rob will do free freight?)  !*!

Don't stress Rob, if you decide to - you will likely sell it on here anyway!

You can't say your not being honest, when you have documented all your work with photo's to back it up!

You WILL get it going eventually - and be better for the experience!

Don't give up.. take a breather, than re-attack. You'll get it :) If you sell it now, you will probably regret selling it later!

If you wanted to sell it, a for sale thread will appear today. I think you have become way attached to it, and have alot of sentimental value invested.

If you sell the machine, the Pro Football thread will end, this cannot be allowed to happen. Keep it. ^^^
