Gottlieb Freddy issue
« on: February 05, 2010, 08:02:24 PM »
Heyo folks,

Am heading up to my uncles place in east doncaster to check on his gottlieb freddys nightmare machine. Its the first machine i ever played so it has a bit of a spot in my heart.

He is having an issue with the Freddy head where it doesnt spit the ball out. The machine performs as if a ball is lost where all the switches and coils try to kick the  ball out of where it may be stuck but still nothing comes out. From what he says it soudns like the head is kicking, but the ball is still not going out. He hasnt played it in over a year due to this fault and dammed if im going to let it sit there and not be played!!  <.>

Anywho im heading there during the week and was just wanting to know if its a common problem and if there is an easy fix/solution.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as always guys.

Apologies for not being more technical but i've only heard the issue described over the phone at this stage.

Cheers,
Steve

Hey Steve,

Most likely the switch in the head is not registering.  Check visually on the switch with the wiring to make sure it hasn't popped off.  Check (with the ball - not your finger) in diagnostics to see if the switch is registering.

Hey Brett,

I havent had a chance to head otu there since last friday but i think we found the issue. Then back left coil thing that kicks the ball up the wire form ramp behind freddys head works/kicks during the test screen however it is not activated/does nothing whenever a ball lands/rests on it.

I havent worked on a gottleib before so its been a learning experience, everything is so different to the bally and data east i have tinkered with.

Any suggestions on how to fix this error? Am also having issues trying to pull the playfield out/up to take a look underneath. Im being heavily supervised so have been somewhat hesitant in giving it a good yank haha  #@# #@#

My troubleshooting skills are limited. Beaky helps me with any hassle i have. i am lucky to have met andrew on the forum and he is local to me which is great.
There are alot of very experienced and switched on members in melbourne.

Marty or one of the other guys from melbourne are very well versed in fixing these issues. sounds like a switch.

One of the other guys will have the answer. The playfield shld just lift easily, not sure about that one.

If one of the other guys doesnt respond, when Beaky is here later, i will get him to look at the freddy manual and lift my freddy playfield.

Without seeing the machine - if the coil is firing in test mode I'd be testing if the ball registers the switch in test mode (not finger).  As suggested earlier it maybe just bent / out of adjustment.

If you get stuck give us a yell.

+1 - I'd say the switch that the ball sits on has bent over the years just enough that the switch isn't being activated.  Can't remember on Freddy for sure, but you should be able to access the switch under the playfield or if not, remove Freddy's head and you should be able to see what is going on.  May even just be a loose wire on the switch itself.  As you said, the coil is working, you just need to sort out the switch that activates the coil.

I am not sure if the Freddy playfield actually slides out or not, I have a feeling that it just lifts up.  It may be something as simple as the ball launch plunger needs to be pulled back to allow the playfield to lift.  Also make sure the lock down bar mechanism is actually unlocked.
