Flipper guard rail problem

I recently had to make a new wire outlane guide for my 1979 stern as the wire had snapped off flush with the playfield in the hole closest to the left hand flipper.
My problem is that when i use either flipper the rail digs in to the rubber around the flippers.
On the left hand side it actually over a period of time pulls the wire out of the playfield due to the constant rubbing.
I can glue the rail in to prevent this but this wont stop the rail digging into the flipper rubber causing a groove in the rubber.
My question is this normal or are were the old flipper rubbers thinner?????????????
Not a major problem but one that bugs the shit out of me

So you have had to make a part to replace a broken part. To me - You need to remove the railing, straighten it out (so it is parallel with the flipper rubber). I have a feeling I know what you mean, but a picture will really help.

A picture would be great.   I noticed on a game i was working on that the flippers had a small lip and if the rubber was pushed to far down it rubbed on the wires???

I know its a bit hard to explain the picture shows it a lot clearer i have actually had to bend the wire out away from the flipper as it was preventing the left hand flipper from returning to its rest position.

It actually looks like the wire isnt in the right spot.    See the small dint bellow the wire that looks to me where the wire form should have gone

No that is just a spot with missing paint probably from when the snapped off rail was on the game, both flippers have the hole in the same spot.

Yeah its a strange one thats why i was asking about the thickness of the flipper rubbers

Maybe you could try stretching the rubbers closer to the front of the flipper thus thinning it out at the rear????

Yeah maybe or i thought i could wear a flat spot on the rubber adjacent to the rail????????

Galaxy does not have this type of guide - check out my restored Galaxy - they are meant to be plastic, but they easy broke during the route days.

What about bending the rail forward ever so slightly ??? ( off or away from the rubber )
