Arcade help needed Please
« on: April 04, 2010, 01:47:04 PM »
Hi guys, as you know, i purchased the Star Trek Voyager Arcade machine. It is fine, and going well, but i am looking at an upgrade.

I was thinking about upgrading the original 2002 model 36 inch massive chassis TV monitor to a new LCD High Definition TV.

We plugged in a 20 inch LCD computer monitor and the difference in picture clarity was amazing. The 2010 technology kicks butt.
You can see graphics and colours n details u just cant see on the older technology picture tube style arcade monitor.

QUESTION - I have found a listing on ebay. I think this is what i need. The original jamma board in the game is called a JAMMA MEGA 100.
I want to put in the card i have found (ebay listing below), but what i am interested to know is if the 2 x guns will stay plugged onto the original jamma board, or will the new board accept the two gun plugs.??  If u click on the ebay listing below, then click on "enlarge" on the picture at the far left top of the listing, then you can see the board in all its detail.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330419500746&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com.au%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm38%26_nkw%3D330419500746%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=

If someone knows someone over at aussie arcade who may know the answer, pls feel free to share my question.

thanks in advance, for a possible answer.  ^^^

Just when i thought my day could not get any worse, FARK

1. I find out my mum collapsed and was taken to hospital this arvo after suffering a heart attack - age 65. she is ok, and in hospital, so hopefully all will be alright, I visited her tonight.  My mums a great lady so it was a major shock to me.best to stay positive. ^^^   BUT, then, more crappy news, (to keep my mind off worrying about mum)

2. I had a partial power supply issue with my arcade voyager machine (plug not in wall socket properly) and the system froze half way through the game, and the system did some sort of reboot thing, now its seems the hard drive may have died or been corrupted. The game, she aint starting. Fark.

I have sent the main board, hard drive and graphics card (the whole dam guts of the machine really) home with Andrew (Beaky) and we will see if he can bring it back to life, or off to the manufacturer it shall be sent.

Need some good luck now. Anyone got any good luck spare ? lol  !@#

Hard drives only have a limited lifespan.

Once Andrew fixes it, I'd be looking to go a solid state drive for it.

I got all excited about SSD's too (I got a eeePC w/sata) - but their MTBF is crap - each "sector" can only be written X amount of times, then it's a bin job AFAIK? I know they use intelligent write strategies etc - but still.

Once the drive gets reasonably full - it will start swapping data all over the place, which would kill it even faster?

Still want one though! When the prices come down a bit more...
Why is it called PMS?
Because "Mad Cow Disease" was already taken...

Sorry Brett, I did forget to put in best wishes for your mum.   !@)

The heart specialists do amazing work these days.  My old man had a quadruple bypass a bit over a year ago....He was in and out within 4 days...

thanks guys for the kind words. My mum is doing ok-hospital. Lots of tests etc and she is seeing the heart specialist etc. Amazing she survived the heart attack at age 65. My mums a strong lady mentally and i learnt my "never give up attitude" and "go for broke" attitude from mum. If i had a dollar for every time i heard mum say these 2 x sayings i would be like james packer. lol

Also, i got some good news about my star trek voyager arcade machine, the president of teamplay inc-usa (company who manufactured the machine), wrote back to me this morning and i can purchase a replacement hard drive with all the software loaded on for apx $250. I cant copy the orig hard drive cause there seems to be corrupted files after the power surge. Beaky did say to me originally to take the hard drive out of the machine when it first arrived, and do a back up then, but i was skeptical that pulling the hard drive out and attempting to copy it may stuff something up.

I still have this thought in my head that the software designers did something to protect their software/intellectual property.Surely it cant be copied that easily ? what opinions do u guys have re copying the software, wouldnt it be protected somehow?

anyways, some good news for now.  ^^^
