Thailand/Vietnam/Cambodia - any recommendations where to stay?
« on: November 20, 2009, 11:05:25 PM »
Looking at heading over in 2010 for 2 weeks with my wife and our 2 teenagers.

Can anybody recommend places to stay, keeping in mind I have a 14 and 19 year old tagging along for the ride  :D

I am heading over to Vietnam with the family in March April and spending three weeks getting the train from North to South.  I get the Lonely Planet guides and have a look through them.  It depends on what you want to see as to where to stay.  Other than the HCMC and Saigon the only other place we spend more than one night in is Nha Trang which is their equivalent of Phuket.  Make sure you have a look at the best months to go weather wise as their wet season is putrid and guarantees your trip spent in a hotel room.

I went last March, the weather was good that time of year. We did a 4 week Intrepid tour but I think they do shorter ones.

Tony,
When you are closer to travelling I can help you with Bangkok and Pattaya as I am there every two weeks for work.

Yep.  Went to Vietnam for 3 weeks.  Fantastic place.  I have been to China, Bali, Thailand and Vietnam was the best.  A lot to see and do, lovely people the whole country through and cheap as.

I think you are very brave - I would give Thailand a wide berth - as much as it it a wonderful place it has proven far too unstable in recent years:
