Understanding coils

Hi Guys

I'd like to replace one of the coils in a Data East machine i have. If I get a Data East one then its simple to change over same for same by part number, but if I was to purchase a different brand I need to under stand how to read the numbers on the coil. The coil I want to change is a 090-5005 Data East number, but looking at a spares web site they list different brands and each brand has its own nmbers.

Does anyone have a link to a web site that explains coil sizing or is someone able to give me a run down of how to do this.

with  williams pinball coils the first number is the gauge of wire used and the second number is the amount of turns, i.e a 23-800 has 23 gauge wire and 800 turns

your coil 090-5005  is equal to a 23-840

the closest coil i can find is a stern 23-840 http://www.marcospecialties.com/product.asp?ic=090-5005-00

here are the specs for the coil
 Wire Gauge: 23
 Number of turns: 840
 Resistance in ohms: 4
