drop a card
« on: May 14, 2010, 04:18:54 PM »
Hi Everyone, I just bought the Drop A Card which was on Ebay......... I can see it's missing the top playfield plastic (where the 10-j-q-k-a drop targets are.)  Does anyone have one of these? Also, the original flippers for this game? ... and maybe a repro backglass if there's one out there. Thanks, Mark

Hi Kidamigo,
Looks like a nice base for a restoration.I have this game but no spare plastics or flippers.I could scan the plastic if you want.I bought a Ron Webb repro for mine it looks very nice.I thought the glass on your machine looked good.Where are the problem areas?
Not a bad game but I don't like that the drop targets don't reset after completion(not much left to shoot for)and it tends to play itself knocking down the lower targets via the slingshots.
I followed your other resto threads and I'm sure you'll weave your magic with this one
                           Ian

Nice Pickup. I recently reconditioned Angelo's (slammer) and I love this machine.

You can pickup the bats from either of our parts sponsors - just check the part number for the right one. They are supposed to be 2 inch.

I got the bats and arms from Greg at RTTB.

The above link will help you with the plastics.

I have not seen a backglass, but if any would have it I would say Mayfair in the US

Cheers Angelo

He got my plastics cheap Angelo, I never got to put them on before sum1 made me a crazy offer on the machine. I really do miss the thing though.

'Evening All, A Drop A Card update......... I got lucky picking up a set of repro plastics which were offered at a very reasonable price. I got the game going in the end and changed the flippers back to 2". It plays really well and I like this game a lot. Then I took off that old and tired piece of mylar, and I'm now doing the 'touch-up' paint job on the playfield. You can see by the pics that it has its share of 'issues', but nothing too bad. The worst of it is under the slingshot area where someone had an abortive attempt at placing the holes for the 3" flippers. I bogged and sanded where these holes were and will have to repaint the cream area of the left and right slingshots, as well as the pop bumper area etc. Fortunately there's not a mark on the main art of the playfield. I put in my order at Pinball Resource for front door, entrance plate, pop bumper bodies, yokes, skirts, flippers, coil stops,  etc etc. It's a shame but in order to restore a machine, I always find it necessary to spend 200-300 dollars in parts. I hate rusty doors etc, and buying them is about as expensive as getting it re-chromed so .... I'm leaving the cabinet re-spray till last this time. It looks like fairly simple design so I'm hoping that will be fun. I enjoy doing the cabinets much more since I got hold of an air-brush. I now use stencils on c'board as using that rather than taping things gives a nice amount of overspray and looks more original when finished. I'll take a few pics soon. Cheers, Mark

I had a love/hate relationship with Drop A Card at uni. Played it for hours. Good to see this pin has found a good home. Gottlieb EMs with a card theme are always special machines.
Wanted: GTB Aquarius backglass. Any playfield bits and backglasses from any EMs - nothing is junk to me.

Simply awesome restore, Mark - and it fits in nicely with your impressive collection.

DAC is one of my favorite wedgeheads - a tough and unforgiving game - especially with the factory 2 inch flippers !
