Protectors needed for new ramps?
« on: July 23, 2010, 02:35:39 PM »
I just got two new ramps from Greg for my Earthshaker
Should I add the Cliffy protectors to the main one?
Or are the ramps stronger than the originals and not in need of protection?

Jimmy's ramps are made much thicker and stronger, but that won't stop ball damage - I still used protectors on FH with his ramp.

I didn't bother with protectors for my WH20 ramps I got from Greg, they are so much thicker I have faith in them being ok.  Fingers crossed anyway as WH20 ramps take a beating behind the green tragets.  The protectors available for WH20 look shit anyway IMO.

if it helps Pete

James says none of his ramps need to have entrance protectors fitted
and if it helps  I'll give you a replacement guarantee for 24 months from date of purchase on the ES ramps that I just sent you
if you decided not to use protectors

There is nothing wrong with placing protectors on any ramps. Best to be safe than sorry.

Gregs offer is remarkabley generous. It will certainly test the strength of the ramps now.

But, i would still use protectors, changing out ramps, depending on the machine could be a real pain in the ass.

Also, why not colour code the standard boring silver protectors to the colours of the pinball machine. A touch of vinyl or paint on any ramp protector set, could make a ramp protector much more attractive ! ^^^

Greg, I am not complaining about the ramps or your service
I know that Pinball inc states that their ramps are made better than the original
plus that they are new and not brittle from 20+ years of sunlight

I was just curious as to the groups thinking about adding the protectors

As CoT said, maybe it is better to add them and be safe

I got an idea, what about RTBB make some ramp protectors that are made from the same see through material that ramps are made from. Should not be too hard to mould.

Now, that would be the bomb. Ramp protectors made from see through plastics.  ^^^

I bet every man and his dog would buy them instead of ugly metal ones. It might be worth investigating. The plastic on the protector could be any thickness the designer wants to make. You could even make coloured versions to add a bit of bling.

Plastic see through ramp protectors, sounds much nicer than boring silver.  ^^^

New ramps are thicker and should last twice as long.
That being said I did install cliffys on my STTNG new ramps.

Quick tip if you have old side rails laying around and spare time.
You can cut and grind those to make just about any ramp protector you need.

I didn't think of it as a complaint Pete
I don't have a problem with ramp protectors  i leave it up to the buyer to decide
which way to go.
