Replacing ramp flaps
« on: August 28, 2010, 06:55:09 PM »
Hi everyone,

I need some advice on ramp flaps.  I've removed the old flaps on my TZ ramps as they are really badly rusted.  They are beyone sanding and re-bluing.  Does anyone know a supplier of replacement blue ramp flaps? I know that pinbits sell stainless ones but I would really prefer to put on blue ones (and I believe you can't blue stainless with cold blue gun kits).

Also, does anyone have experience they could share on making replacement flaps, where to source blue spring steel and if it is feasible without a hole punch or other expensive tools.  I've seen this article but would love to hear about people's personal experiences.

The other problem is how to reattach the replacement flaps.   I'm thinking to use the pinbits press rivets as I don't have a rivet press and couldn't find a local metal fabricator who had anything that would do the job.  Other ideas welcome on this also.

Are you in Melbourne Pajo?  I'm happy to press the rivets for you as I've just finished making one (1 tonne Arbor press).

Thanks for the offer Marty, I'm near Byron Bay so it's a bit far to go!
